VeeamDocBuilder

A public PowerShell tool for producing structured documentation and audit reports from Veeam Backup & Replication environments. I use it in my own work for customer documentation after backup projects and develop it independently.

Data flow

A collector reads live PowerShell data, VMC.log as the prioritized source and optionally a VeeamHealthCheck export. It merges the data into a neutral JSON model from which separate generators create Markdown, Word, Excel, HTML and PDF reports.

Available output

VeeamDocBuilder supports individual environments, fleet reports across multiple sites, cross-customer portfolio overviews and anonymized exports. It creates Word, Excel, HTML and PDF output without Microsoft Office or additional PowerShell modules.

Sources and boundaries

Decouple collection and report generation through a neutral JSON model
Prioritize VMC.log on conflicts and use health-check data only for unknown fields
Process everything locally with read-only access to the Veeam configuration

Technical consequences

A stable intermediate format keeps data collection independent from output formats.
Explicit source priorities and documented unknown values prevent reports that appear complete but are unreliable.

Expand VMC.log parsing for additional Veeam configurations
Validate reports against more VBR versions and environments
Continue refining findings, templates and documentation
